The WORST of British

Back in Cyprus after a few weeks in UK I have to say I hang my head in despair of my home country following events in Ayia Napa.
For a young British soldier, about to leave to fight in Afghanistan to be stabbed on a night out is a terrible irony, and a dreadful thing. For the perpetrators to be ' British' - (questionably in my opinion) is  despicable.
People who choose to take weapons on holiday, especially to such a peaceful country, and especially on a night out should not be breathing the same air as the rest of us - and I sincerely hope that the Cypriot Police, and indeed UK authorities show these slimeballs a real hard time.!!!
Ayia Napa is ' off limits' to UL forces based on Cyprus, and OK, our lads set out for a last night out, to forbidden territory - but it is beer swigging football hooligan UK tourists who have made it so, not Cypriot people.

And while Cyprus still statistically boasts one of the lowest per-capita percentages in Europe when it comes to being affected by criminal behaviour, it's fair to say that a great many things have changed during recent years.
Indeed, if certain local law enforcement officers are to be believed, the growing number of (mainly petty) crimes which has manifested in recent years, is largely due to the ever increasing number of foreign nationals being drawn to the island's shores.

The murder rate has doubled in recent years - from something like 7 to 13 - of which it is reported that three were committed by Cypriots.

I have spoken with young men locally about crime, and the very thought of some of the heinous acts we become desensitised to in UK are simply unthinkable to them.

So once again, foriegn thugs have needlessly taken a life - somebody's son, a most precious gift taken out ' just like that' . - and for what! - some brain dead treacherous snail's ego !!!!
I sincerely hope that this event doesn't do even more to mar the Cyprus tourist industry, and send many condolences to the family of David Lee Collins

I am passionate about Cyprus, and the village of Kouklia in particular. I'm lucky enough to live and work in the area
