Now to report a sad occourance whilst I was away. Probably the most respected man in Kouklia - Kaiser, passed away after a long battle with cancer. My husband attended the funeral, and the whole village and surrounding roads were ' standing room only' - which said a great deal about this elder statesman who had been Muktar some 18 years ago. Speaking very little English, Kaiser always made us most welcome, and we enjoyed many a happy meal with him, getting by with gesticulation, signs and interpretation from Maria ( Taverna Efrem) - he epitomised all that is great about the Cypriot people. Last time I saw him he was still driving, and high fived with me as he slowly drove passed me in the village - a true gentleman - always with a warm and friendly smile, and who will be very sadly missed. RIP xx
At last back in sunny Cyprus after 6 weeks in UK, working, and some family / Granny time. Stepping off the plane last night was like walking into a warm marshmallow - lovely - until of course you try to sleep. The no seeum's lost no time in getting tucked in to my ankles !!! - but regardless, it's good to be back.
